Statement from Governor Jan Brewer - Lauding the Completion of All "Not Investigated" Child Safety Reports

Statement

"I am immensely thankful that, as of today, the last of the "Not Investigated' cases of potential child abuse or neglect that were discovered in November 2013 have been investigated and officially closed.

"Today's news is a true testament to the good that can be accomplished by devoted individuals collaborating toward a common and noble cause. While it is disheartening that this crisis existed at all, I am proud of -- and Arizona is grateful for -- everyone who had a hand in the completion of these cases and the safety of these children. Now, with the establishment of the new Department of Child Safety (DCS) -- including a clear mission and a refocused culture built on transparency and accountability -- we can continue our work to make certain that nothing like this happens again.

"To the members of the CARE Team, who provided valuable, independent oversight of the investigations -- to the Department of Public Safety, whose thorough administrative review helped shed light and provide transparency to this unacceptable situation -- to the local law enforcement agencies and DCS employees, who offered their time, talent, energy and resources to this crucial cause -- and to every Arizona stakeholder, lawmaker, child advocate and citizen who has joined in and supported our efforts to make child safety a core priority: Thank you."
